Now before anyone in the 3Bit team mentions this, I haven’t actually played Mega Man. It’s just one of those games which passed me by. While I was always interested in games like Mega Man and have seen it several times on the internet, I never got the opportunity to play. But now I have said opportunity with Batterystaple Games’ 30XX, a sequel to their extremely well-received 20XX. They make it obvious where they draw their inspiration from, but with the addition of rouge-like elements, I think this could be a blast (yes, pun intended).
30XX follows two robots from the year 30XX. They do battle, jump and slash their way through their unique looking environments to defeat the ever so mean-looking Guardians. Judging by the frantic action you see, precise platforming is needed as well as a good eye on enemy placements to be sure you blast them or slice them in two before progressing. 30XX will release with 8 distinct levels, numerous power-ups. While you may think that’s not enough, you’ll even get a level editor to challenge your friends or constantly try new ones.
30XX also has a rogue-like style, meaning that even retrying levels will provide something new and different for players to get their teeth into. If you want to share this experience, 30XX also comes with Co-Op feature both local and online, so you can experience these new levels together. For the last 5 months, 30XX has already been available through Early Access on PC. However, the developers at Batterystaple keep it frequently updated. Based on their previous success, it’s likely we’re going to see a console port in the future, much like its predecessor 20XX, which came to consoles shortly after its PC debut.
