Victura and Highwire Games have announced 6 Days in Fallujah, but this is not the first time we have seen this title! 6 Days in Fallujah is a shooter that takes place in the Iraq war during the second attack on Fallujah in 2004. 6 Days in Fallujah was originally going to be released in 2009 by Konami and Atomic games. However, it was deemed too controversial by the public. The former developers and publishers both received many calls to not release the game, mostly by Iraq War Veterans and the families of those who had fallen during the war.
Back in 2009 Atomic games, the then developers of 6 Days in Fallujah had defended the game, stating to gamesindustry.biz "Six Days in Fallujah is not about whether the US and its allies should have invaded Iraq. It's an opportunity for the world to experience the true stories of the people who fought in one of the world's largest urban battles of the past half-century". Now, over a decade later, it would seem that Victura and Highwire games are in the same frame of mind.
The trailer for 6 Days in Fallujah (which you can check out above) takes a different approach to that of its predecessor's trailer, where we see former marines talk about the experience and the history around the terrorist's siege of Fallujah and the coalition forces 6-day attack on the fortified city. 6 Days in Fallujah once again sounds like it could bring some controversy to the gaming world. However, I believe this game COULD, if done right serve as a powerful message that does not glorify war like other shooters so often do. Instead, educating and preserving the stories of these veterans, allowing them to be shared with an audience who wouldn't necessarily know of the events that took place in Fallujah 17 years ago.
