Last night's EA Play Live was jam-packed with exciting news for many games, including the highly anticipated Battlefield 2042, coming later this year on October 22nd to PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. The update for Battlefield 2042 was not what we anticipated; however, rather than the usual extended gameplay first look that we usually would see, we got a trailer to a new community-driven game mode that will not only test our skills but also bring out our creative side as we explore not just Battlefield 2042, but other classic Battlefield games that include Bad Company 2, Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 3.
We are of course talking about Battlefield Portal, a community hub being developed by Ripple Effect where you can play your game your way. Whilst this isn't a map editor, this game editor/community hub will allow us to create a variety of game modes where we choose how the game is played, be that 6vs30 in a 2042 vs WW2 battle of the fittest or even a game of knives vs defibrillators. This unique way of playing is made possible by players being given access to the admin tools that were previously only accessible to developers. Also included will be a logic editor. For the more experienced creator, this editor will bring basic scripting as an option to the "experience" that you are creating. Of course, there are a few limitations with these tools, as we will not be able to mod the game or the maps or "create our own battle royal" style game
Battlefield portal will allow you to share your creations with anybody else within the community hub and try out there's too so long as the creator is online. You will also be able to build up a following based on your creations or follow your favourite creators for a chance to play with them when they are online. To give your creative experiences that extra touch for additional followers, you will also have access to a huge range of vehicles, weapons and even AI soldiers from across the previously mentioned Battlefield titles, including Battlefield 2042. On top of all of these awesome features, we will also have access to several maps from across all the previously mentioned Battlefield games. You can check out a list below.
Battle of The Bulge (Battlefield 1942)
El Alamein (Battlefield 1942)
Arica Harbour (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
Valparaiso (Battlefield: Bad Company 2)
