Sunset Overdrive was considered one of the key exclusives for Xbox One in the last generation of gaming. This epic neo-punk title by Insomniac game still carries a cult following of fans and has since become available on PC too, due to popular demand. Today we at 3Bit have a small update for fans who have been waiting for Insomniac (who are now owned by Sony) to do something with this epic game, whether on its original console or on the PlayStation! Today Insomniac registered the trademark for Sunset Overdrive under Sony’s ownership, but what does this mean for fans of the game?
Well, for fans of this incredible game, it means we MAY see Sunset Overdrive return, but not as we expect! It is doubtful that we will see a re-release or remaster/remake of the original Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation. We could see a sequel or reboot to the cult classic on Sony’s next-gen console, the PlayStation 5. Whilst I would love to see the original Sunset Overdrive on other platforms, it is unlikely, as the game was originally released as an Xbox Exclusive before Sony acquired Insomniac and was in fact published by Xbox Game Studios, and negotiations will have to go through Microsoft. However, with nothing from the Sunset world in almost 7 years, I would be more than happy to see a reboot or sequel come to PlayStation. What about you? Would you like to see Sunset Overdrive return? Or do you think it should remain a one-hit-wonder on the Xbox One? Let us know in this article’s comments on our social media pages which you can find and follow below!
