Have you ever seen a trailer for a game and immediately said, "Yes, this is absolutely for me!" Well, that's what happened for me upon seeing Firegirl: Hack' n Splash Rescue. Just everything about the outstanding trailer really hit home for me, from the graphics style, the music and naturally, the overall theme. Dejima Games, a French game developer, has re-entered the gaming world in a blaze of glory with Firegirl, and you can check out what to expect from these guys below!
Firegirl: Hack' n Splash Rescue (Firegirl) throws us into the life of a young fire rescue officer just starting out in her career of firefighting, where she will take on numerous emergencies to put out fires, rescue civilians, and maybe even come across some clues to solve the mystery of why the fires are engulfing the city. What impressed and intrigued me the most about this title was the theme. Instead of hoards of aliens, zombies or even fighting off the legions of hell itself, you're pitched against one the most primal of elements, and you're only goal is to rescue civilians in any way possible. It's been a while since I've even seen a game similar to this (simulator games notwithstanding), and personally, I really love that.
As you progress through the roguelike levels, you'll be utilising your trusty high-pressure fire hose to not only rescue those trapped but also get power-ups such as additional time or use your hose to navigate the level almost like a jetpack. So far, we have seen platforming all over hotels, trains, apartment blocks and even a very moody looking forest level, and of course, The Firehouse, which serves as your main hub. In this location, you can rebuild and hire new staff so that you'll be able to get new equipment and upgrades and tackle these fires much more effectively as they dominate the city.
But extinguishing flames is not the main objective here. Instead, it is a more heroic role, rescuing the civilians, which really adds to the game's pace as time is a rare commodity, especially in such dangerous situations. Obviously, we do not recommend you try this for yourself in real life and instead enjoy the experience of being a hero from the comfort of your own home with Firegirl when it releases on 14 December 2021 for Xbox Series X, Series S, PlayStation 4, PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One, I know I will, as I already have it on my holiday wishlist. Let me know if you have come across any game with similar themes like this by commenting on this article's post on our Facebook and Twitter pages below, as I would love to hear them!
