Today's Square Enix E3 presentation started incredibly strong as we got to check out the latest game coming from Eidos Montreal, Guardians of the Galaxy! This incredible looking story-driven action-adventure title will put us into the shoes of Peter Quill as we go on an all-new adventure with the rest of the team, which includes Gamora, Drax Rocket Racoon and most importantly, Groot.
This adventure will take us across the known galaxy fighting various creatures and meeting iconic characters and civilisations such as Lady Hellbender, Mantis and the Nova Corps (I really hope we see Nova himself try to stop the team during the campaign). We also learnt that the events of this Guardians of the Galaxy will take place 12 years after a galactic war, and the plucky heroes for hire have only recently formed as a team. Their actions during their early campaign set the stage for a mysterious order that is hell-bent on taking over the galaxy, and nobody is willing to stop them … apart from our team of heroes who have inadvertently put this orders takeover into action.
Guardians of the Galaxy will rely heavily on choice-making throughout the campaign that will affect how your team reacts with you. However, the choices will not affect the end of the game. As it was explained in the post-show, everybody will get the same start and same finish during this incredible looking adventure, filled with banter and incredible 80s music, which will play a major role within the campaign and gameplay.
When it comes to the gameplay and, more specifically, the combat StarLord will use his iconic elemental blasters, which were shown in full force against several different enemy types, including gelatinous cubes. The gameplay is very reminiscent of modern Final Fantasy titles. We see the use of a stagger bar and the option to command the other Guardians in the heat of battle with a series of command wheel options. There appears to be a levelling system that we do not know a lot about yet, but I am hoping this is how we unlock a series of new attacks and abilities not just for Starlord but for the other Guardians, but it is likely we will learn more about this at a later date closer to its full release.
Guardians of the Galaxy will release on October 26th 2021, for PC, PlayStation4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch. Here at 3Bit, we cannot wait! You can pre-order the game now for all platforms. You can also pick up a digital deluxe edition which includes:
