Holomento is a permadeath RPG that focuses on putting players through the wringer, much in the style of a soul’s game. However, Holomento actually doesn’t play in the same way as this series. In fact, it takes its gameplay inspirations from games like Terranigma or The Legend of Zelda in that it has as much accessible combat as those titles. Right now, Holomento is on Kickstarter, gaining funds for its initial release on PC with stretch goals to get it on the key consoles. So be sure to check those out.

Holomento Gameplay

Holomento is a game about managing and upgrade your stats by collecting hundreds of different items, including special weapons, and utilising item skills to take down difficult enemies, the creatures of the Hollow. To do this though, players will need to grow the world around them, by building up a community that has its own trade and citizens. These towns are upgradeable via their shops and storefronts and each town has several common amenities that are uniquely essential to it. Upgraded towns will reward you with benefits and allow you access to the local Markets.

But let’s not forget about the brutal and fun combat. At the beginning of Holomento, you have to choose a class from a variety of options. Each class begins with a unique set of items; however, this will change how you will fight your way through the Hollow drastically. Fighting in Holomento feels more aligned to Zelda than it does the souls’ games.

The Lore of Holomento

Holomento takes place in Eventide Hollow, which was a thriving kingdom where its people lived in peace. It was a vast land with free-roaming folks and ever-growing villages. A horrible curse was laid upon the land and Eventide Hollow fell into despair. The source of the curse was also its only protection from it, the Holomento. Now it is filled with darkness, creatures, and corruption. Its peace didn't last forever. Due to this curse, travelling through Eventide Hollow is quite dangerous, with many enemies that you will have to deal with.

The Holomento is a book that traps the souls of all who possess it. This mysterious tome affixes itself to those who seek passage through the Hollow. If the Traveller dies, their soul is also added to the Holomento before it returns to its resting place awaiting the next traveller. Once acquired, the book is tied to the soul of the traveller holding it and the Holomento cannot leave the Eventide Hollow, therefore trapping any Traveller who possesses, as they cannot leave the land.

Why Fund Holomento?

This title has an entirely hand-crafted open world, however, to ensure that no experience is the same, its dungeons are procedurally generated dungeons. Holomento enables you to write your own story as generations of Travelers pass through this land desperate for help. As you open shortcuts, reveal secrets, locate ancient relics, and build improvements, you enhance the Hollow for future travels.
