Minesweeper is a game that is familiar to anybody who owned a PC in the '90s. Its simple design and challenging gameplay was available on pretty much every PC, but how could this mathematically challenging game get any better? Well, Indie developer Kiefer Nemeth has the answer with their new indie title Katja's Abyss: Tactics. Their answer is by making it an incredibly challenging and slightly addicting turn-based strategy game.
Katja's Abyss: Tactics takes us to the fictional Montmane mountain as we start our expedition with the Echo Mining Corp. The mountain is brimming with powerful energy ripe for extraction, but between you and the energy is hordes of mutated monsters that are not impressed with you disturbing their home. As a newly promoted captain, you will follow Head Researcher Katja into the mines, building units and forging a path and stomping out any hostile life that threatens you and your units. But what are these monsters? What is this mysterious energy? Is the Echo Mining Corp telling us everything? The only way we will ever know is by digging deeper into the mountain.
Katja's Abyss: Tactics will feature eight levels, and we at 3Bit have been fortunate enough to get hands-on with the Beta, which we are currently loving. Katja's Abyss' stunning pixel design, along with the combination of Minesweeper and turn-based strategy games like Advance Wars has kept us entertained for hours as we try to make perfect runs, find hidden collectables and survive each dangerous venture into the mines. We cannot wait for you to check it out for yourself when Katja's Abyss: Tactics releases later this year on Itch.io.
Be sure to stay with as at 3Bit as we have much more to come from Katja's Abyss: Tactics in the near future, where we will be talking to the developer of this awesome game, Kiefer Nemeth, along with an all-new trailer and release date! Katja's Abyss: Tactics is available to follow now on Itch.io, so be sure to check out their page ( and follow the game for some exciting updates as they come from the developer.
