Today we got to see a handful of announcements from Japanese developer/publisher SNK. The announcements covered 2 of SNK's biggest fighting games King of Fighters and Samurai Shodown. Our first set of announcements came from King of Fighters, which started with King of Fighters XV's reveal, which will be releasing later this year! King of Fighters XV will be a direct sequel to XIV, currently available on the PlayStation 4 and PC. More information will be coming for King of Fighters XV next week, supported by another new trailer different from the one used in today's SNK announcement that you can check out above in the full SNK Showcase.
On top of the incredibly exciting news of a new King of Fighters, we will also be seeing a new version of King of Fighters XIV, which will be sort of following one of its western competitors' footsteps Mortal Kombat. King of Fighters VIV Ultimate Edition will include the base game, 8 DLC characters, 10 DLC costumes and 10 themes for the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, there is no word as to whether there will be any Next-Gen improvements for King of Fighters XIV in the Ultimate Edition, but with King of Fighters XV looming on the horizon I believe it will be unlikely that there will be. King of Fighters XIV is available now on European region PlayStation 4's digitally and will be coming to North America on January 20th!
Along with King of Fighters XIV and XV, we will also be seeing the Return of King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match, with a revamped look for PlayStation 4. of King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match includes 66 playable combatants, online ranked and unranked matchmaking, along with a variety of game modes. The game modes include Challenge mode, which features 50 missions to clear, a practice mode for you to build your own combos before your next fight and an Endless Mode, where players can fight for as long as they please in an arcade survival. King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match is coming soon for PlayStation 4.
King of Fighters was not the only game showcased during the showcase, however, as we also got to see an update for Season 3 of Samurai Shodown. The update introduced two new characters that will be joining the roster. The first new arrival was a returning fan favourite called Cham Cham. Described by the Developers as a "Cute Devil", this feline-like character will bring a more animalistic approach to your combat. Alongside Cham Cham we will also see a crossover character appear from another SNK title, The Last Blade 2. The character we will see from The Last Blade 2 will be none other than Hibiki Takane, a calm and innocent blacksmith's daughter. The Samurai Shodown team has stated that they want players to truly feel like they are playing Hibiki from The Last Blade whilst in Samurai Shodown, and are working hard to make her move sets sync well with the melee fighter game.
