Konami have been a name synonymous with gamers for decades, with classic arcade title like Contra and Frogger, to Kojima classics Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill, and of course the still ongoing football series Pro Evolution Soccer.

This isn’t all that Konami does however, as the company also runs a variety of casinos around the world and fitness centres across Japan. Next month Konami will be going through a major restructure and in a statement that has caused a lot of confusion across the gaming world will either spell the end of Konami’s gaming division, or its rebirth from the ashes. The Press Statement first states that various “production division” heads are moving into newly named “production departments”.

Whilst this seems obvious that it is a simple change of department, a lot of recent discussion has centred around the last part of the press statement which states: “We are dissolving the Production Divisions to respond to the rapid market that surrounds us. Production Division 1 (Dissolve) Production Division 2 (Dissolve) Production Division 3 (Dissolve)”.

The dissolvement of Production divisions and the moving of Division heads into Production Departments could mean that Konami is finally ready to shift gear and bring back some classic IP’s and more original titles such as Skelattack, which Konami launched last year.
