Lucasfilm Games is truly entering the world with a bang this year, as we have our 3rd breaking news story from the new company in 3 days. This time it is an announcement Star Wars fans have all been waiting for, and that is that a new game is in development, but this time it isn’t with EA, who previously had exclusivity on Star Wars video games.

This time the game will be coming from Ubisoft and their ‘The Division’ Development team Massive Studios! The announcement that Ubisoft would be helming the next Star Wars project came from a news story. With this news, we learned that a lot of work has been going on behind the scenes as Lucasfilm Games “waited patiently for this momement”. The article went on to explain that “this moment” meant a new direction for Star Wars “as Lucasfilm Games is now opening the doors to developers that want to come play in the galaxy far, far away.”

Massive Entertainment is renowned for creating open-world titles, not just with The Division 1 and 2, but also with other Ubisoft titles such as Assassin's Creed Revelations and Far Cry 3 (which I still see as the best in the series). For this reason, Lucasfilm Games has tasked them with the next Star Wars title, which has confirmed will be an open world and story-driven game! This is incredibly exciting news for fans like myself, and I honestly cannot wait to see where they will set this game in the Star Wars Universe. I know I am not the only one excited about this as Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said to
“We’re really excited about an opportunity to work with the team at Massive, led by David Polfeldt and the creative director, Julian Gerighty. We’ve spent almost a year now, working to get to know them and what they want to bring to the table, I’m a huge fan of them, personally. I think we’re really excited about where that project is going, because they have a unique vision for the story and the game they want to deliver.”

But what does that mean for the EA Star Wars Series? Well, and Lucasfilm Games covered that too, explaining that “Some old friends are sticking around”. According to the article, the EA games will still be given a big role in the future of Star Wars Gaming, hinting that we may be seeing more news around sequels for Battlefront and Jedi Fallen orde, as Lucasfilm Games will continue to work with the gaming giant, and even confirmed that there are “a number of projects underway with the talented teams at EA”.

Lucasfilm Games return to the gaming world has definitely been one to remember, and it looks like they are not done announcing new projects yet, as they work to rebuild the LucasGames Empire.
