With remakes very much the go to at the moment, rumours of a Metal Gear Solid (MGS) remake are abundant. The most likely looking dev company being Bluepoint. The reliable leaker KtharsisT on ResetEra Forum claims that Bluepoint have been working on remaking at least the first few MGS games, with a view to bring the originals to a new PS5 audience.
Is this a good thing though? With many adults childhood memories being left in tatters by the Final Fantasy 7 remake not being an exact duplicate of the original. It still managed to sell over 3.5 million copies in just 3 days. However you look at it, remakes are definitely big business for the companies involved. We certainly won't mention 'The Twin Snakes' on Nintendo Gamecube though.
It's certainly a hard cross to bear, treading the line between delivering something new and exciting whilst also keeping the original fans happy. Without any truly reliable sources, however, and no announcements, we are currently being left in the dark. Let's hope the rumours of a Sony buyout of Konami come true. Then I'd consider it a certainty.
Classics like Tomb Raider however are getting a reimagining along with the movie brand. I for one would love to see a big budget movie to tie in with a reimagining of the original MGS. It was the first game I ever fully completed way back when and holds a lot of nostalgia for me.
A remake or a re-imagining, which would you prefer? Let us know !
