Back in November last year we brought you the news that 4A Studios Metro Exodus would be getting a next-gen upgrade as part of the 10th Metro Anniversary. Today, we can give you more details about what that awesome next-gen upgrade will involve along with the exciting news that Metro Exodus will also be getting an Enhanced Edition for PC, Both updates will be released soon and will be free to anybody who owns the game on the previous-gen console or PC.
For Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 Metro Exodus will be brought into the next generation of consoles with 4K resolution at 60FPS, with Raytraced lighting through 4A’s Ray Traced Global Illumination and Ray Traced Emissive lighting, which the studio pioneered in Metro Exodus The 2 Colonels expansion. On the Xbox Series S graphics will be targeted at 1080P, but will also include 60FPS and Ray Traced lighting. 4A Studios will also take advantage of PlayStation 5’s Dual Sense controller, bringing immersive Haptic feedback to Metro Exodus whilst the Xbox will receive spatial audio and controller latency improvements. The next-gen editions of Metro Exodus will also include some new Quality of Life improvements, including the option to adjust your field of view, a first for the Metro series.
For the PC’ enhanced edition Metro Exodus will be taking advantage of Nvidia’s outstanding DLSS 2.0 software, which eagle-eyed 3Bit followers would have seen examples of on our social media channels last week when Nvidia announced that they had released a plugin for Unreal 4. DLSS in the simplest terms is an AI that upscales graphics in a game without chewing up graphical resources and will also help improve framerate. 4A Studios will also be taking Ray Tracing to the next level, which is summed up in this quote from the original 4A blog “For PC players, we’re taking advantage of our new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline and the latest GPU-capable hardware from NVIDIA and AMD to offer the ultimate Ray Traced experience”. The upgrade will be so big that 4A Studios will be releasing this as a separate product and ray-tracing graphics cards are a must in the minimum requirements. The Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will be free to any who own Metro Exodus on the PC.
