During the Sony State of Play, fans were given a in-depth showcase of what’s to come in the latest Oddworld entry, with a release date. So, for those wondering, Oddworld Soulstorm will be releasing on April 6th, this year! And after the showcase we were given, fans should be extremely excited for this title.
In the gameplay, the developers define the game as a 2.9D game, in which protagonist Abe, will travel in the full 3-dimensional plane, but primarily mixes it up with moving in the left to right platform style we came to love with the original entries. Abe now will be required to save up to 1000 Glukkons, in which he will be required to do many new (and old) things to get these to safety. This involves, arming them to the teeth and fighting back, hiding in thick fogs and using them as meat shields… wait… what?
Abes telekinesis is back and once again we can “A-noo-na-noo” our way to control enemy characters and cause devastation all whilst they are forced to watch as they meet their demise. Like the older titles, Abe will need to communicate with his pals, to be able to get through the rough world he has been pit in. Although, its not just the life that Abe needs to be wary of. Now environmental hazards have been stepped up, with the crumbling world that surround you, also becoming a threat to your life.
Be sure to check out the trailer above, and we are interested to hear what fans of the series think to the new approach. Would you like to see more Oddworld games come out in this format? Or do you think that they should go to a full 3D world?
