The Lone Blade is a 3D platformer which puts a unique spin on the platformer genre, where instead of playing as the wielder of the blade, you instead play as the blade itself. The Blade is embedded within the ruins of a world, left to rust, and decay in a destroyed land that was once its own. In order for the Blade to redeem itself, you will take control of the Blade, and help it ascend throughout this fallen world, to a mysterious new resting ground.
The key mechanic of The Lone Blade, is to be in control of the Blade, hopping from point to point, using specific move sets to propel you further, and avoiding its own destruction. This serves for the platforming components of the game, as you draw deeper into the game, you will find new challenges to over-come such as platforming across ‘sword destroying’ drops, whilst jumping, dashing, and gliding from platform to platform, avoiding a shattering end.
Developers Opia Games have said that the idea came to them when Lead Developer Hugo came up with a strange game proposition. “Let’s make a game where you would play as a sword instead of playing with a sword”. The development team agreed, as this aligned to their ethos of liking to try out new and original concepts for their games - “It didn’t take us long before we got started with some prototypes” .
The Lone Blade features a unique soundtrack, which is scored orchestrally, with some vocals to support. This musical theme fits with the overall ethos for the game, a story of greed, punishment, and redemption.
