PlayStation's answer to Xbox Game Pass has been a mystery under wraps for months now, until last week when it was rumoured to reveal it in a new State Of Play! When it comes to pricing, the Extra tier matches that of its competitor Game Pass, which has established itself already within the Xbox and PC communities, whilst the premium matches the price of a monthly PS Plus and PS Now membership when purchased as an annual bundle. However, when we compare it to its competitor Game Pass does offer backwards compatible games within its single-tier pricing. On the flip side of this, however, the Premium tier of PlayStation offers approximately 300 more games, when compared to the 453 games currently available on Game Pass console.

Moving away from pricing and onto the games themselves, there has not been much revealed to be coming onto the platform besides some big names such as Spider-Man Miles Morales, God of War, Mortal Kombat 11 and Returnal. But Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, does not believe first-party games should release on the subscription day 1, something PlayStations competitor Xbox has been reknowned for over recent years. Jim Ryan has commented on day 1 releases whilst interviewing with GameIndustry.Biz.

"We feel like we are in a good virtuous cycle with the studios," explains PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, "where the investment delivers success, which enables yet more investment, which delivers yet more success. We like that cycle and we think our gamers like that cycle."

However, Ryan also stated that "I don't want to cast anything in stone at this stage." Meaning that in the long term, we could be seeing things change, as Jim Ryan also says, and we here at 3Bit agree with, "things can change very quickly in this industry,"

Personally, I am a bit torn on the choice to go premium with PlayStation Plus due to the Backwards compatibility. Whilst I am excited that PlayStation has chosen to embrace the nostalgia and bring a catalogue of previous games to its subscription, I am also frustrated that it is blocked behind the highest tier of the subscription. However, before I snap to any final conclusions, I will wait to see what games are revealed to be in each tier and make my judgement on the final product. What are your thoughts on the subscription reveal so far? Are you excited about it, or do you feel differently? Let us know by joining us on Discord, Facebook or Twitter and share your opinions!
