Sonic the Hedgehog Producer Takashi Iizuka has recently stated that he would like to see the currently untitled Sonic game to set the foundations of future sonic games, much like Sonic Adventures did when it released in 1998. This news comes from an exclusive interview with Sonic Stadium where Iizuka said:
"The new title in development is progressing towards a 2022 release, so I can't really call it an Anniversary title. However, Sonic Adventure laid the foundation for 20 years of Sonic titles after its release, so in the same way, I really hope that this new title releasing in 2022 lays the foundation for the following future Sonic titles – that is the idea behind the challenge for the team."
This is great news for Sonic Fans, who, when this new Sonic game releases, will have been waiting 5 years for a new story from our favourite blue hedgehog. Iizuka also stated in this interview that the currently untitled 2022 release of Sonic the Hedgehog will bring something "new and challenging." What Could be changing? That is anybody's guess. Many fans suspect that Sonic will be going open world, but could such a drastic shift work with such a fast-paced character? We will have to wait and see as we get more information about what Iizuka means when Sega brings us more details about this mystery game.
