Gears of War Developers The Coalition have confirmed that they are moving to the Unreal 5 engine, focusing on next-gen games. In an update to fans today, The Coalition stated:
“As we look to future games, we’re excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5. Gears of War has always been at the front of Unreal Engine development – as a breakout 720p title for Xbox 360 through last year’s 120FPS multiplayer update for Xbox Series X|S – and we’re excited to continue that tradition by developing on UE5 for multiple new projects in the coming years.”
However, this isn’t the end of the line for those of you still playing and enjoying Gears of War 5 as the development team still have lots of exciting updates coming to Gears of War 5 with new operations (7 and 8), which will include new characters, maps and special events.
The Coalition then went on to say that “Shifting to a new engine is a big undertaking, so we want to be clear that we will not be announcing any new projects or titles for some time.” So don’t go expecting a next-gen Gears of War title announcement too soon. However, if you have the skills and the knowledge, The Coalition is looking for new team members to help pave the way with their next endeavour, so be sure to check out their recruitment page here if you think you have what it takes.
