If you’ve ever been on a Youtube binge, especially a Zelda one, you’ve likely already come across Ember Lab before as they have created a Majora’s Mask tribute video, and now they’ve taken the step to make their own game.

Kena is an action-adventure story-driven game. As the main character, you travel to an abandoned village to learn its secrets while trying to get to the Sacred Mountain shrine.

It is abundantly clear Ember Lab wanted not just a rich environment, but they’ve taken the care and patience with all aspects of the world and its inhabitants, and, well, frankly, every bit of it looks stunning. During your time playing, you’ll also meet the Rot. These elusive spirits are responsible for balancing the world out by decomposing that which is dead and rotting elements, but they also have a surprise. These cute little characters will empower Kena helping her with both her abilities and overall help transform the environment.

Finding and helping the Rot isn’t your only responsibility, as well as exploring and trying to rid a curse, but some of the spirits have become corrupt and here’s where we have the action portion of the game. You need to use all the power bestowed on you from the Rot to fight these challenging corrupted spirits in this fast-paced combat system, from using your staff to beat them back to using an almost bow ability. Coming to PS4, PS5 and the Epic Games Store on 24 August 2021, it’s definitely one I’m going to look out for.
