It's time to take a trip to Iki Island as Suckerpunch Productions gives us our first trailer to the additional content coming to Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut. This new trailer takes us back to the island of Tsushima, where Jin learns of a Mongol Tribe. They have based themselves on Iki Island, a place familiar to Jin that holds the dark secrets of his clan.
The Mongols on Iki island are led by a mysterious Shaman known as The Eagle. She will bring a threat like no other Jin has faced so far when dealing with the Mongolian threat. In the trailer, we see Jin seemingly drugged by the Eagle, sending him on spiritual journeys where it seems he will be forced to face his fears and deep traumas that have been left buried for too long.
Iki won't just is full of Mongols either as Jin will also have to deal with the lawless inhabitants of the island, as raiders and criminals roam freely in this lawless land that the samurai have failed to control for decades prior to the Mongol occupation. Will these unsavoury characters hinder Jin, or will he be able to make unlikely allies of those who roam freely on the island?
Much like in the original content on Tsushima, Jin will encounter many unique characters on his journey through Iki. Thanks to a recent PlayStation Blog post, we have learnt that some of these will include Pirates, Smugglers and Mad monks. We will also be exploring new locations, including haunted caves. These new characters and locations will bring forward new legends and new skills, as Jin learns what it means to be not just the ghost but Lord Sakai as he combats this new threat.
The PlayStation blog post also states that the story of Iki Island will be one of healing, something that cannot be fixed with weapons and ghost tools, and whilst Iki Island will still have a lot of action-filled moments, the themes of healing will be present throughout. As this quote from the blog says:
"We all suffer wounds, from the humblest farmer to the mightiest jito. Wounds from the past that we carry with us. And the thing about a wound is that you can't fight it or stealth your way around it. Ghost weapons and samurai techniques won't help you. A wound can only be healed."
It would seem from this quote Iki island will not just be about Jin healing from his recent past that we learn about during the Mongol invasion, but also of his clan's past and whatever dark secrets Clan Sakai has buried within Iki Island.
Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut will release next month on August 20th for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 for £ 69.99 (PS5) and £59.99 (PS4). You will also be able to upgrade your original copy of Ghost of Tsushima for £15.99. Will you be playing the Director's Cut of Ghost of Tsushima?
