Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was announced, being redesigned to have controller style controls as well as motion controls. The game has been coated with a nice shimmer of HD, but the recent announcement has got fans split in two. Some fans get excited by the fact that Skyward Sword is coming to the Nintendo Switch, and some fans don’t feel quite as happy about the recent announcement. This all comes down to so many factors, and I want to breakdown the reason that most fans are Not happy with the recent announcement.

One of the most common issues that fans have, is themed around this year being the 25th Anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Mario celebrated his 35th Anniversary with an amazing 3 game pack, which featured the top 3D Mario games all being ported to the Switch. Around this time, and predictably, fans also suspected that Zelda would get the same treatment, bringing 3 of the best titles to the Nintendo Switch. As rumours started to build the common thoughts were that Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker all packaged together and released on the Switch. So you can imagine after months of hype around this rumour, it could lead to fans dissatisfaction. I think the biggest stab in the chest here, is that both Wind Waker AND Twilight Princess were given the HD treatment for the Wii U, meaning it shouldn’t be too hard to port these over to the Switch. Another element is the asking price, and this ties quite closely to the statement I made above. Mario 3D All-Star (35th Anniversary Game) came out at the pretty reasonable cost of £39.99 – and that was for 3 AMAZING games! Whereas Skyward Sword seemingly is asking for a full RRP of £49.99 just for the one game. It’s easy to see how much this is causing contention in fans, considering that Skyward Sword doesn’t seemed to have had any major graphical updates, and doesn’t do much more than most emulators can do.

I personally sit on the fence of being excited for this game but am a bit bummed about its price point. Although, for those who never got to experience this title, or are new to The Legend of Zelda, the story that Skyward Sword poses, is one of the stronger ones of the games. It’s a really nice game to play, and it shows exactly how some of the features were carried into Breath of the Wild. Although I do hold out hope for a Legend of Zelda: 35th Anniversary event, where maybe we still will see this triple pack treatment for the games. Maybe we will get Twilight Princess, Wind Waker and Ocarina of Time? If not, I’ll be bummed, but considering COVID and all the complications imposed on developers, I’ll understand! If Nintendo were to create a Zelda triple pack, with any 3 Zelda games within, which ones would you want to see? Let us know in the comments sections on our social media pages!
