Here at 3Bit, we like to take a neutral stance on everything, be that the console wars to the industry as a whole, but sometimes a publisher is so consistently good that you know whatever they choose to back next is going to be magic. For me, that publisher is Akupaa games! We have streamed, played, and reviewed many of their games since we started 3Bit. Time after time, they are constantly scoring high on our reviews and some of which I would even go as far as to call Indie game of the year. This is why I am so excited to talk about their most recent upcoming release, Kardboard Kings, which is in Development by Australian based Henry House and is releasing this month!
On February 10th, we will be able to check out Kardboard Kings as we explore the all-new trading card game Warlock. We will be thrown into the shoes of a new card shop owner called Harry Tsu, and with him, begin to get into this smash hit of a card game. We will need to buy, sell, and trade cards as they go up and down in popularity and value while hosting events like booster drafts to build our reputation and grow with the Warlock community.
Kardboard Kings has everything you would want, from a trading card shop sim, from the opening of booster packs in the hunt of rare cards to an unpredictable market which can include church condemnations, ban lists and much more. But Kardboard Kings isn't just about the well-designed and insanely stylish cards; it is also about the journey. Not only will we be making new friends with the locals, which can come with its own series of surprises from requests to knickknacks, but we will also be visited by a mysterious patron who is visiting the town to give you more than just Information.
Kardboard Kings is currently on;y set to release on PC, and there is a free demo available to check out right now! This demo sets the mood for the entire game as we meet the shop co-owner, Giuseppe, a propper Australian bird who takes no sass and gets to know the basics of running a card shop. From my first impressions, this is a surprisingly addicting and fast-paced game, between the customers and the daily news it can become a lot to manage, which makes for a very exciting sim game, but at the end of each day, you get a bit of time to chill out go through all the new releases, buy new cards and take stock of the madness that was the day. Kardboard Kings is so great that you do not feel overwhelmed with menus even though a lot is going on. Instead, everything you need is all there in front of you in the simplest of forms. Requests come through on the phone, customers come to the counter to talk, and all the information you need is tucked away in the corner of the screen for you to check out as and when you need it.
Kardboard Kings releases on February 10th for PC via Steam and can be added to your wishlist here. Will you be checking out Kardboard Kings? Have you already played the demo and have your own thoughts? Let us know what you think in the comments of this article on the 3Bit Facebook and Twitter pages, and let us know!
