Silent Hill is back to being at the front of everybody's mind as many eager fans of Konami's horror franchise pick up on more clues for its long-awaited return to the gaming world. Especially here at 3Bit when we learnt our PS5's would not be able to play Silent Hills P.T, which was a demo of a now-cancelled Silent Hill project that would have featured Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro at the helm as directors.
Since then, rumours have speculated around Silent Hill being remastered, rebooted or spun off from a large variety of sources, with the rumour mill kicking up a lot of dust last year as the gaming world joined the rest of the world in lockdown.
During these events, speculation would rise that we would see a horror game from Konami, and most likely, it would be Silent Hill. Unfortunately, there was no Silent Hill or any other major Konami IP that gamers want to see a return of. However, the rumour mill kept turning and still is here in 2021, where this week the rumour mill has picked up speed again, this time with Bloober Team at the helm thanks to an interview between gameindustry.biz and Piotr Babieno, the CEO of Bloober team, who recently released The Medium on Xbox and PC. Piotr said to Gameindistry.biz, "we've been working for more than a year on another gaming project, another horror IP, and we're doing this with a very famous gaming publisher. I can't tell you who. I can't tell you what the project is, but I'm pretty sure when people realize we're working on it, they will be very excited." Naturally, eager fans have taken this to hint that Bloober Team is working on one of the worlds most popular horror franchises to date. Their wording indicates that this secret project could be published by somebody as big as Konami. Konami hasn't released many massive titles recently. Over the last few years, we have only seen a handful of games and announcements, which have primarily been arcade re-releases, The Pro-Evolution Soccer titles and their latest IP Skelattack.
However, it seems that Bloober Team may not be the ones with the Silent Hill IP hidden away as a potential title. The same VGC article we spoke about above also mentions that Silent Hill was outsourced to a prominent Japanese developer and would be revealed this summer. This statement in itself opens a lot more questions, and whilst there is the speculation that there could be 2 Silent Hill projects on the go, it is more likely that we will only see the one. This in itself begs the question if Bloober Team are not working on Silent Hil, then what horror title are they working on?
